Pension Plans, Group RRSPs, Group Benefit Plans

We are pleased to have Priscilla Healy as our consultant in Pension and Benefits Law.  Fogler, Rubinoff's pension group advises as to all aspects of pensions and employee benefits  law, including employer-sponsored registered and unregistered defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans, Group RRSPs, deferred profit sharing plans, retirement compensation arrangements and other retirement and savings arrangements. We advise as to  the utilization of surplus in conversions, plan mergers and plan splits as well as to issues relating to compliance and plan governance. Experienced senior counsel work with the plan actuary, service provider and/or benefit consultant to assist employers or plan administrators  in the establishment of such plans, their ongoing operation, and in their full or partial termination. Our approach is to help the employer to maximize the value of its employee benefit plans to itself and to plan members, while minimizing its liability.

Members of the pension group work closely with the corporate group with respect to  pension and benefit issues in  mergers and acquisitions, with the restructuring and insolvency group in dealing with the implications to pension plans of corporate restructurings and insolvencies,  with the employment law group  in employment issues involving pensions and benefits, and with tax counsel where required.

As well as employers and administrators, we advise other parties to the pension deal: custodians, appointed administrators in insolvency situations, member groups where there may be  surplus disputes, and custodians.
